Today is Saturday July 10. We left Edmondton this morning around 9:00. We were later leaving because we had a problem with the retracting step on motor home. The bolt on the bottom of the step was coming apart so Larry tried to hammer it back into slot but it was bent slightly and would not go back properly. He went into Walmart but could not find what he needed so for a temp fix, he used a nail to hold it for now.We left Edmondton according to directions one of the guys at Walmart gave us but ended up more or less driving in a circle as we went beyond our route and had to backtrack. We were needing fuel so we found a Husky station that sold diesel and filled up. They had a restaurant so we went in and had breakfast while we were stopped. The breakfast was lousy and we both could have skipped it. We normally cook something before we leave but since we stayed over in the Walmart lot, cooking is not as easy a task as when we are hooked up at a campsite. We have not eat out much since leaving home. We normally make a sandwich while on the road for lunch and cook dinner when we get set up at night. It's only the nights that we have not had a campsite that we eat out and have not had a meal worth the price yet. It is very expensive to eat out in Canada. We spent $25 this morning for just a typical breakfast of eggs, sausage and toast. We each had coffee but not additional drinks like juice. So I'm going to have my fill of cooking I'm afraid before we get home. I'm looking forward to eating Salmon in Alaska so I figure We'll save our eating out for there. It was a very pretty drive to Dawson Creek today as we traveled through some high elevations and lots of Canola fields. They are such a brilliant yellow when the sun is shinning on them they almost blind you.The campground here is ok--nothing to get excited about but where we are parked they have an antique car show. We walked over and looked at all the cars, There were some really great looking ones but my favorite was a 1946 Dodge pickup that had a beautiful dark green paint job. The guy and his wife that owned it pulled up by our motor home waiting to get in line for the parade they were doing through the city so I got a chance to talk to them. They were really nice people and said they were from BC and drove 12 hours to get here for the show. Dawson Creek is much larger than I expected. This is where the Alaskan Highway beings, which is why the campground is called Mile 0. We talked to the couple parked next to us today and they are on their way back from Alaska. They told us a lot of things to watch for mainly road conditions as there is a lot of gravel areas right now. They are from California and also restore antique cars, however they do not have their car with them for the show. They also said we should make sure we call ahead for campsites as it is getting busy with travelers now. We have reserved a spot in Ft Nelson which is only about 4 or 5 hours from Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek is a nice city and is very modern with most anything you need in the way of business's.
