Last weekend I ran into a lady at Michaels by the name of Diane Guley. We started talking about paints and brushes and she told me she takes art lessons from a lady named Nancy Worden who has a studio on 49th lane in the Foothills. She also told me about an Art Walk that was going to be held today, Saturday and Sunday and said she was displaying some of her work at Nancy's studio.. I looked it up on the internet and Jan and Judy picked up a brochure earlier this week for me.
This morning Larry and I drove over to try to find some of the places the art was being displayed which was basically at individual's homes or art studios. Again we forgot the GPS and even with a map, we had a horrible time finding the places. The first one we actually found was Nancy's studio where Diane had her art. We walked in and Diane recognized me and introduced us to Nancy. Both Nancy and Diane had their work displayed and they were amazing pieces. Diane does mostly water color now but had worked in oil for several years. I cannot begin to express how wonderful her paintings were. She had portraits of Elvis, Johnnie Deft, Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne. She also had several of cats and dogs and many landscapes. Nancy is also a wonderful artist and mainly had Arizona Art both in oils and water color. We stayed a long time talking to both of them and Nancy told me she would try to work me into her classes next year which I was very excited about.
Nancy gave us directions to several of the other art displays which were mostly all of her students. We found the next display on 49th Drive and 3 of the women from Nancy's studio had art displayed. One of the lady's was Adell Pullen who had both oil and water color. She was an older lady but very interesting. She told me that the water color classes at Nancy's was mainly taught by her. She also told me that Diane Guley has been all over the US taking art lessons for the last 3 or 4 years. It made me feel a little better when I realized she had so much formal training. Adell said she would try to find me a spot in her class next year if possible. I talked to her and the other 2 women about water color and they all said they liked it better than oils. I've always wanted to try water color but have heard it is a lot harder than oil. Will be anxious to give it a try,
We went to about 5 other locations to look at various artist. One guy we met had done a painting of a rose in wine, which was an interesting piece. He jokingly told us it was called 'dip and sip'. He was a very jovial man and we enjoyed his paintings as well. Anyway we were pretty much worn out by the time we came home. It was another hot day so we were ready to get home and cool off.
