We talked about driving over to Bard, CA to try to find the Date Farm but I could not really find much information online to indicate they even give tours of the farm. We decided to go to clubhouse instead for the weekly 'Burger Bash'.
We took our showers and dressed and walked up about 11:45. The hamburgers were better today and were actually cooked all the way. Last week they were just a little rare which I have a hard time eating. We got our food and sat down across from a couple from Manitoba, Canada. Their names were Keith and Virginia and they were very friendly and easy to talk with. Keith owned a farm in Manitoba and was near a town called Swan River, which is on the way to DePaw, Canada where Larry use to duck hunt. Larry and Keith talked a great deal about Canada and Virginia and I talked about our trips to Los Algodones, Mexico.
The entertainment was basically the same with the VERY OLD Country music. The guy we met last week was playing with the band today and he sang one of the songs, which was good. They had an older lady that recited a poem named 'The Cremation of Dan McGrew' and did such an amazing job she captured the audience. It was a very long recital and I could not believe she had memorized the entire poem. It was very entertaining for all.
We spent a couple of hours at the clubhouse visiting and when we came home it was getting quite warm. I changed into shorts and a tank top and sat outside in the sun to read. I got so hot setting outside that I had to come in to cool off. This would have been a perfect day for the pool!
I called the University of Southern California again today and changed our tour date for Friday. The guy I spoke with did not have the list for Friday with him so didn't know how many were scheduled. I imagine Friday could be even busier than tomorrow with the weekend crowd but he assured me they always had plenty of room for all.
We decided to pick up chicken from Frye's Deli for dinner and beer, that is on sale. The beer prices in Arizona are quite high and much more expensive than home. We left to go over to Frye's and saw that the car wash was not as busy so pulled in line to wait. We sat for about 20 minutes to get our car wash but the car sure looked nice afterwards. The dust here just coats everything and doesn't take long for the car to start looking gross.
Drove on over to Frye's to pick up our grocery items and our chicken. We went to the salad bar and picked up a small salad to share. This grocery store is huge and has a ton of choices in their Deli as well as many items to take home and heat. It also has a Starbuck's located inside. They certainly cater to all things that scream to the 'snowbirds' and it is always so busy it's hard to find a parking place.
I called our friends Jan and Jerry as we had not talked to them since we left home. Jan was bowling so I talked to Jerry for quite awhile. They are in the process of remodeling the Condo they bought a few weeks ago. Jerry has been spending most of his days working there and they plan to move in at the end of February.
Watching Charlie struggle each day, we have decided we need to take him over to the Vet.. He acts like he is just very sick so will have the vet look him over again tomorrow.
