View of Resurrection Bay from our Campsite
Huge waterfall in Seward coming down mountain
Thursday August 5, 2010. We left Denali at 8:45. Our plan was to drive back to Anchorage to the Golden Nugget where we planned to stay through Saturday night. We were planning to drive the car down to Seward for the day on Friday so Pete and Leslie could see the Kenai Peninsula. They said they would like to have more time in Seward so we decided to drive to Seward today. We ended up driving about 360 miles from Denali to Seward. I think we drove this in about 7 hours with an hour out to pick up more supplies at Fred Meyer in Wasilla on the way. We parked the motor home at a city campground that sets directly on Resurrection Bay. When Larry and I drove to Seward a little more than 2 weeks ago, we thought this was a beautiful area to camp. Rather than coming back to Seward with the RV we went to Ninilchik which is on the west side of the Peninsula and near Homer. We were happy to come back to Seward to stay for a few days. Also in one of my earlier blogs, I mentioned that I accidentally deleting all of my picture of Seward, which I was VERY upset about! So I now have a second chance to replace my pictures of Seward.
We went down to the harbor tonight and booked a glacier tour for tomorrow with Kenai Fjords Tours. We leave at 11:30am tomorrow morning and it is a 6 hour trip. They not only advertise the cruise of the glaciers but also the marine wildlife viewings. I hope we are not disappointed! Leslie and Pete plan to drive out to the Exit Glacier tomorrow morning and hike into the glacier before our cruise.
We drove down the harbor road and had dinner at Thornes, which was recommended by a local. We all had Red Snapper and it was terrible! None of us liked it and we paid $26 each for our meal. We decided in the future we would pool our $112 and buy our seafood to prepare here at the motor home. Larry and I have had few meals that we have enjoyed when eating out. I guess we are too picky about our food or maybe it's because I'm such a wonderful cook?!?!?
After we finished our horrible meal, I had Larry drive us down the waterfront to a HUGE waterfall that we had seen when we were here earlier. It is so amazing the amount of water that is rushing down out of the mountains. I think Pete and Leslie were totally shocked to see how large the waterfall really was.
The view we have from our campsite is just like a photo. We are pulled in facing the bay and the mountains surround us. I know I keep saying each place is more beautiful than the previous, but it is so hard to describe some of the beauty we have experienced. I will say Alaska has few places that we have seen that are not just breath taking!! Two of my favorite things are the water and the mountains and tonight we have it all right in front of our eyes!
