Day 29 - Oh Beautiful Alaska

Mouthwash in the ladies room at the Prospector Restaurant

Pete and Leslie getting ready for hike----------------------------- Dinner at Prospector Pizza

Campground at Denali
Monday August 2, 2010. We left Anchorage this morning around 10:00am to travel to Denali National Park. The drive was pretty boring for most of the way until we neared the park area. The park, of course, is a beautiful area. We arrived at our destination of Rainbow RV around 3:00pm. The campground is very much like all the other Alaskan Campgrounds in the fact that it is just a gravel parking lot. It is VERY dusty, however, here as they have not had any rain! That's good news except that now that we are here, we will probably have rain. The RV Park is just behind all of the gift shop areas so it is a short walk for us to spend our money!

The day was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It was probably 70 degrees and the sun was shinning bright! Leslie and Pete got their hiking things gathered and took off to the park to hike this afternoon. Larry and I just kicked back and walked around the town and looked in the gift shops. About 7:00pm we had not yet seen Leslie and Pete so we walked down to Prospector Pizza and sat at the bar to have a beer. We called Leslie and they were just leaving the park so they said they would meet us for Pizza,

We got a table out on the deck area and really enjoyed being out in the beautiful weather! We all ordered Alaskan Aged Cheddar Soup. It was awesome! After we had the soup we ordered pizza. Pete and Leslie ordered pizza with rain deer meat and Larry and I just had a supreme. We sat and enjoyed the weather and our beer for a time.

There was one VERY unusual item in the ladies room at the Prospector Pizza place. They had like an urn in the ladies room full of MOUTHWASH????? I wondered what this was all about. One of the waitresses came in and she said because they serve so many spicy foods, they figure people would like having the mouthwash!@#! OK so I went back out to our table and mentioned this to the group and Pete said they had it in the men's room but he could not figure out how they expected them to use it. I told him we had cups in the ladies room so I assume they were just out of the cups in the men's.

Anyway, not much going on today. Tomorrow morning we are due to catch our shuttle into Denali at 7:15am. We have to arrive 30 minutes ahead of time so will be a very early morning!
