Tuesday January 13, 2015

We left early and stopped for fuel and grabbed a quick breakfast. I guess the number 13 is the lucky(or possibly UNlucky) number of the day. Our RV site last night was #13 and the pump we used to fuel was #13 and of course today is the 13th.

We drove 569 miles today to reach Amarillo, TX. I drove about the last 2 hours as I felt Larry needed a break. We called ahead to the Amarillo RV Ranch where we have stayed the past 2 or 3 years to reserve a site for tonight. We had them make a reservation at the Big Texan Steakhouse for 7:00 tonight for dinner. We hardly had time to get set up and change our cloths before the driver for the steak house arrived to take us for dinner. They come in a huge old cadillac with horns from a long horn stear mounted on the hood. When we got in the car, the people who are parked in front of us was also in the car. They were from Western NY and were on their way home from Los Vegas where they both have family. They were nice people and we enjoyed talking on the way to the steak house.

We arrived and was seated right away. Ordered drinks and after looking at the menu I asked the waitress about the ribs. She said they were wonderful so I ordered ribs and Larry ordered a steak. When our meal arrived I could not believe how poor the ribs were. They were almost dry and drenched with BBQ Sauce which I'm not fond of when it is so thick and on the entire portion of ribs. Larry's steak was so rare I thought it was going to walk away! Not so sure but what we have almost run the coarse with eating here. The beauty of going there is that they pick us up and bring us back to the RV site and we do not have to take car off dolly to drive there. The first couple of times we ate there on our way through, it seemed to be very good but after our meal tonight I'm not sure I'm ready to go back.

After we finished eating, we went out to the bar for another beer and started talking to a guy who worked there as a chef. He encouraged us to try some of the beer that is brewed inhouse. They have a micro brewery and brew about 12 different beers there. We tried samples of 4 different  beers and only one turned out to be something I could probably drink. The last two we tried were horrible!!

The weather forecast is for snow tonight. They are only calling for about an inch but an inch here is like a foot of snow at home. Last year we had about 1 1/2 inches the night we stayed and we drove on ice for 4 hours leaving so if we get snow tonight will probably stay another night.

Arizona Bound Jan12,2015

As expected, snow fell last night and we planned to leave for Arizonia today!!! It seems to happen every year on the night before we leave. We waited awhile this morning for the streets to be cleared before trying to make our escape. While waiting we called Oliver to sing Happy Birthday as today is his 1st Birthday. How fast he has grown! We celebrated his birthday earlier before Morgan and Addison had to return to school from the holidays. I am so blessed to have three wonderful grandchildren! They are the light of my life!!

We got showers and packed a few last minute items and around 10:00 we loaded the cats in the car to head for the RV. On the way over decided we needed to go by Kroger and pick up some gallon jugs of water since we will not be filling the water tanks till we reach warmer weather.

With the cats in tow, we drove to Kroger and I made the comment how surprised I am that Raven is handleing the car ride. There was no hissing or growling and no foaming at the mouth. Arrived at Kroger and Larry went in to get the water and I sat in the car with the cats. The whole time we sat there, Raven seems to be enjoying watching people walking by in the parking lot and he seems very content. Soon I notice he's drooling down the door of the car so I grab some paper towels to catch the flood of saliva coming from his mouth. As we sat there he still is not howling or acting strange other than the drooling mess coming from his mouth. Larry returned to the car and we drove back to motor home to load the rest of our items and get the car loaded. Just as we pull next to the RV, out came a horrible gush from Raven and it came out with such force that it went all over Larry, myself and the car.  The entire contents of his stomach came gushing forth. My car was filled with barf and even had it on the windshield!!! WOW I should not be surprised as this is what happens every year when we get ready to leave. Larry started the motor home to let it warm up and I spent 30 minutes trying to clean the mess in the car and on my cloths. Such a wonderful start to our trip!

We drove to Marshfield, Mo and stayed at RV Express 66 Campground. We stayed here about 3 or 4 years ago overnight and drove up to Camdenton to see Cathy Henkins. It's very nice and easy to get into and only has about 15 to 20 sites.
